Getting Rid of Gum Disease

Several years ago, I scheduled an appointment with my husband’s dentist. During my visit, I was shocked to learn I was suffering from gum disease. I discovered my gum disorder was caused from not seeing a dentist in more than five years or flossing my teeth daily. To treat my gum disease, the dentist prescribed a medicated mouthwash for me to use twice each day. I also had to undergo multiple, professional cleanings at the dentist’s office. I began flossing every day too. In a few, short months, my gum disease was completely cured. On this blog, I hope you will discover smart, simple tips to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy for life. Enjoy!

3 Reasons To Visit Your Dentist For A Emergency Tooth Extraction

Professional dentists strive to save people's teeth and continue to develop new ways to do so. However, sometimes a tooth may be too damaged to be saved, and your dentist might have to remove it. Unfortunately, you might need tooth extraction services at any time, which would mean that you need to visit a dentist urgently. That is why dental offices offer emergency services to deal with these dental emergencies. It is important to know when you need an emergency tooth extraction to visit your dentist on time. Below are some situations that call for immediate tooth extraction.

1. Improper Wisdom Tooth Development

Wisdom teeth tend to grow in the late teenage years to the early twenties. Although many individuals don't experience issues with the growth of their wisdom teeth, the experience may be different if you don't have enough space in your jaws for these teeth. Sadly, when your jaw is small, the wisdom tooth will force the other teeth out of their position as it grows. Otherwise, these teeth may not erupt and might remain embedded in the gums.

Therefore, it is vital to visit an emergency dentist anytime you experience pain near your wisdom teeth. The dental professional can then remove the teeth before the issue affects the rest of your teeth.

2. Development of Periodontitis

Periodontitis is a dental issue that develops when gingivitis is left untreated. Gingivitis is a mild gum disease that is easy to treat when detected early. When a dentist notices signs of this gum disease, they will recommend appropriate oral hygiene practices to follow and schedule several dental cleanings to manage the problem. However, if this problem is not detected early, it continues attacking your gums and other tissues and structures that support the teeth. After a while, periodontitis will develop, and your teeth will not have the support they need. In such cases, a tooth extraction will be the best option to prevent the spread of the problem.

3. Progressed Tooth Decay

If you are not keen on your dental hygiene, your teeth will accumulate plaque and tartar. Cleaning up tartar is easy as long as you detect them early. But if you don't visit a dentist on time, the buildup of plaque and tartar can lead to severe tooth decay. Unfortunately, visiting your dentist when the tooth structure is more decayed will leave no option but remove it to prevent the issue from attacking the adjacent teeth.

These are three reasons why your dentist may recommend an emergency tooth extraction. However, most of these problems are easily avoidable by making regular visits to the dentist or scheduling an appointment immediately when you notice something wrong. That way, your dentist can deal with the issues before they progress and need an extraction.
