Habit #2: Flossing in the Morning and After Dinner

You should also be flossing at least once each day. Let your children know that you are flossing, too, and you may encourage them to floss at the same time you do. You can make it a fun thing that you do together, and they can learn the best techniques from watching you. The American Dental Association recommends flossing as a crucial part of taking care of your teeth and gums, so get your kids started flossing early by showing them how fun and easy it can be.

Habit #3: Swishing with an Effective Mouthwash

Swishing with mouthwash is more important than you may think. In fact, The New York Times reports that mouth washing is an essential part of preventing gum disease. An antibacterial mouthwash is most effective at removing bacteria, but you should speak with your dentist about which kind of mouthwash is best for your needs and dental health goals.

Habit #4: Going for a Cleaning at Your Dentist's Office Every Six Months

Make a point to go to the dentist every six months for your cleaning. Talk to your kids about why you go in for a cleaning and exam twice per year, and talk to them about how important it is. By discussing your oral health care choices, you encourage them to think about these issues. You may also help them be more enthusiastic about going in for their own dental cleanings each year.

Finally, keep in mind that your little ones are watching what you do. You need to be proactive well before you need an emergency dentist. After all, your kids are likely to imitate what you do when you least expect it.
