Getting Rid of Gum Disease

About Me

Getting Rid of Gum Disease

Several years ago, I scheduled an appointment with my husband’s dentist. During my visit, I was shocked to learn I was suffering from gum disease. I discovered my gum disorder was caused from not seeing a dentist in more than five years or flossing my teeth daily. To treat my gum disease, the dentist prescribed a medicated mouthwash for me to use twice each day. I also had to undergo multiple, professional cleanings at the dentist’s office. I began flossing every day too. In a few, short months, my gum disease was completely cured. On this blog, I hope you will discover smart, simple tips to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy for life. Enjoy!

Surprising Upsides To Straightening Your Teeth

Patients often assume that the only reason for straight teeth is the cosmetic benefits. But not only should the value of your appearance not be discounted, but there are many other reasons to want straight teeth.

Chewing Becomes Easier

You will have an easier time chewing when your teeth are straight. Crooked teeth create gaps where your tooth should meet with the food you're chewing. If you're not chewing your food into small pieces, you are more likely to choke. Also, if you do not chew your food thoroughly enough, you will not be able to digest your food as much, reducing the nutrient benefits.

When you struggle to chew, you might also struggle to eat certain foods. For instance, when chewing through a tough pizza crust, you might find yourself struggling.

Oral Care Becomes Easier

Straight teeth are less likely to develop oral health problems. You might end up with a mouth that is less healthy, and you may be more likely to suffer from oral decay. If you cannot brush a part of your tooth because of the crookedness, that part of your tooth might develop a cavity.

When your teeth are crowded in an unnatural way, your teeth might wear unnaturally. This will increase the risk that your teeth will develop cavities because the worn parts of your teeth will have less enamel to protect them.

Your Speech Will Improve

If you are suffering from a speech impediment, one cause could be your crooked teeth. Your teeth play a large role in your ability to speak clearly. Also, when you have a great smile, this can impact your confidence and can make it easier to give a better presentation.

Headaches Might Go Away

Crooked teeth can have an impact on your jaw by placing pressure on the wrong areas. This can not only make your jaw hurt but can also cause headaches. You may also have cuts, sores, and bruises on the inside of your mouth. These are often the result of your teeth poking the inside of your mouth in unusual ways.

A Mouth Guard Will Fit Better

If you are engaged in extracurricular activities, you are more likely to suffer from an accident because your protruding teeth won't fit inside a mouth guard as well and you might damage a tooth.

Fortunately, you don't have to worry about having a mouth full of metal if you request Invisalign from a company like Eberting Orthodontics. These retainers can be just as effective as braces, and nobody will notice when you're wearing it.
